Annual Report
In conjunction with the State Legislature, Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire formed the Puget Sound Partnership, and charged it with six goals to be met by 2020 in order to bring Puget Sound from the brink of environmental disaster to a measurable condition of good health. These goals and the approaches to meeting them are outlined in the Puget Sound Action Plan, located at: http://www.psp.wa.gov/aa_action_agenda.php
The essential conclusion drawn during the research in developing the plan is: “Fundamentally, people care passionately about Puget Sound and want to ensure it is passed on to the future”. Among many important priorities for reaching these goals is to “increase and sustain coordinated efforts for communication, outreach, and education in order to increase public awareness and encourage individual stewardship”. (Priority E-4)
From its inception, Harbor WildWatch has been working to increase public awareness and individual stewardship, and is now poised to work in collaboration with other community agencies and organizations to continue building on its educational outreach. Through interpretive programs at area beaches, junior naturalist programs, elementary school workshops, and the development and distribution of a variety of environmental education resources, Harbor WildWatch is a growing environmental education organization serving the public in the Gig Harbor/Key Peninsula area.
