DESCRIPTION:\nMussels and Community Science Volunteers Help Monitor Pollution in Puget Sound with Danielle Nordstrom, Department of Washington Fish & Wildlife\n\nWednesday, September 235:30pm doors open, Presentation 6-7pmUpstairs event space of Ocean55268 Point Fosdick Dr, Gig Harbor, WA 98335\n\nPresentation:Come join us for an evening learning about how transplanted mussels are used to monitor pollution in the Puget Sound nearshore and how community science partners are essential in helping to survey this large geographic area. We’ll further discuss the status and geographic distribution of contaminants found in the study mussels and changes observed over time.\n\nPresenter:Danielle Nordstrom has been with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife since 2016. She first joined the agency within the Salmon and Steelhead Management team tracking commercial salmon and halibut catch data. In 2017, she added to her duties and joined the TBiOS team as a scientific technician to provide support to research studies and long-term monitoring for toxic contaminants in Puget Sound biota. She has moved into a biologist position which manages field and laboratory efforts for WDFW’s biennial mussel monitoring survey. Danielle received her B.Sc. in 2015 from The Evergreen State College with emphasis on Marine Biology and Botany. Since graduating, she has contributed to a variety of laboratory and fieldwork projects as well as environmental education and community outreach.\n\nIn Person Logistics:For those attending in person, the doors open at 5:30pm and the presentation will begin at 6pm. Please purchase your beverages in the Cocktails & Fishtales event space rather than at the bar so we can reach our drink minimum. If you’re planning on dinner, food must be consumed in the restaurant, so plan to eat either ahead of the event or after the presentation.\n\nDigital Options:For those who can’t make it in person, we will plan to stream this in person presentation to the Harbor WildWatch Facebook page. To access Facebook Live events, simply search Harbor WildWatch on Facebook at the scheduled time (6pm for the presentation) to find the live feed on our page. The videos will always post in full once the live stream ends, so feel free to catch up with any content you miss by scrolling through our facebook page.
