SUMMARY:Cocktails and Fishtales – Be Whale Wise in the Salish Sea
DESCRIPTION:\n\nPresentation Title: Be Whale Wise in the Salish Sea, with Sydney Zakahi\n\nWednesday, November 45:30pm doors open, Presentation 6-7pmUpstairs event space of Ocean55268 Point Fosdick Dr, Gig Harbor, WA 98335\n\nPresentation:Learn how to Be Whale Wise in the Salish Sea! Presented by the Boater Ambassador Program, this talk will address existing vessel regulations and guidelines in Washington State and Canada. Information will include best practices and regulations for boating around marine wildlife, what to do when a whale approaches you, and where to keep an eye out for the vessel restriction zones in our area.\nThe Boater Ambassador Program is an initiative coordinated by Be Whale Wise and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Our mission is to educate boaters on vessel laws and best practices for boating in waters with Southern Resident killer whales and other marine mammals to help them enjoy their time on the water while maintaining the safety of themselves and the wildlife with which we share the beautiful Salish Sea!\n\nPresenter:Sydney Zakahi is a Be Whale Wise Boater Ambassador that supports local outreach and education regarding our Salish Sea waters and the marine life living in it. She loves living in beautiful Seabeck, WA with her family and is also a salmon recovery effort volunteer. She also works as clinical support for Seattle Children’s Hospital. Sydney cannot wait to meet and connect!\n\nIn Person Logistics:For those attending in person, the doors open at 5:30pm and the presentation will begin at 6pm. Please purchase your beverages in the Cocktails & Fishtales event space rather than at the bar so we can reach our drink minimum. If you’re planning on dinner, food must be consumed in the restaurant, so plan to eat either ahead of the event or after the presentation.\n\nDigital Options:For those who can’t make it in person, we will plan to stream this in person presentation to the Harbor WildWatch Facebook page. To access Facebook Live events, simply search Harbor WildWatch on Facebook at the scheduled time (6pm for the presentation) to find the live feed on our page. The videos will always post in full once the live stream ends, so feel free to catch up with any content you miss by scrolling through our facebook page. These videos will also get posted to youtube at a later date. All times are posted as PST.\n\nIf you are not a member, please still come and see what we’re all about! This event is free for members and volunteers, and a suggested donation of $10 for non-members. No RSVP is required.\n\n\n
