July 5th Dirtiest Beach Day Cleanup
Join us on July 5th, the dirtiest day on the beach of the year, for a beach cleanup at Purdy Sand Spit. Harbor WildWatch and South Sound Surfrider invite you to help us keep our beaches and oceans clean by participating in a beach cleanup. Bring your own bucket and gloves, or use the supplies provided. This event is perfect for all ages and offers a great opportunity for students to earn service hours. Come dressed for the weather and ready to make a positive impact on our local environment!
We’ll be tackling firework debris with boots on the ground and kayaks/SUP in the Sound (bring your own board or boat)—because who said cleaning up can’t be an epic adventure? To RSVP https://southsound.surfrider.org/events
Purdy Sand Spit Boat Launch:
Getting to the Beach: We will meet at the top of the boat launch at the scheduled time. There are a couple options for parking which include using the lot across the street from the boat launch or parking along the street on the south side of the spit. Please use extreme caution when using the crosswalk and make sure cars in both directions are stopped and it is safe to cross. Additionally, be cautious of passing cars when along the roadway. Look for Harbor WildWatch staff and volunteers wearing blue. If you arrive late, find us on the beach!
Terrain: Getting from the parking area to the beach can be difficult, especially if you have parked along the road. Beach access is easiest at the boat launch but there are options to scramble over the rip rap to get to the beach or take an uneven path near the boat launch to get to the beach. This is a low sloped beach with primarily gravel, cobble, and sand with occasional boulders.
Restroom: Yes – Portable bathrooms only, no running water.
Drinking Water: No
Address: Purdy Boat Launch Ramp, 7726 WA-302, Gig Harbor, WA 98329
