Low Tide Tour, Beach Cleanup & Plunge – Owen Beach
Three great groups are coming together for a low tide and a great casue; Harbor WildWatch, South Sound Surfrider & Two Girls Take on the World will be hosting a combination low tide tour, beach cleanup and plunge!
9am: Join Harbor WildWatch for a fun and educational public beach walk program on the stunning shorelines of the Salish Sea. Our knowledgeable and friendly biologists and volunteer naturalists will guide you through a hands-on exploration of the intertidal zone, where you will discover the incredible diversity of marine life that calls our local waters home. Closed toed shoes that can get wet are reccomended.
11am: South Sound Surfrider will be hosting a beach cleanup from 11-1pm We will be meeting near the lower parking lot of Owen Beach Park so look for the blue Surfrider tent and flag. We encourage you to bring your own bucket and gloves for the cleanup, but we will have some spares to share. After the Beach Cleanup: Two Girls Take on the World will be hosting a plunge to raise awarness for the Southern Resident Orcas as part of their yearlong campaign of daily plunges. Footwear, swimsuit, towel and a warm dry change of clothes reccomended.
Owen Beach
Getting to the Beach: Park in designated spots at Owen Beach Park. We will meet near the picnic tables near the concession stand window at the scheduled start time. Look for Harbor WildWatch staff and volunteers wearing blue. If you arrive late for the low tide tour, find us on the beach – we will head SE towards the boat house. The Surfrider Station will be ready at 11am, look for the blue Surfrider tent to check in and get more information on plunge timing.
Terrain: There are paved steps or low sloping paved paths to the beach. This beach includes areas with sand, gravel, cobble, and occasional boulders. At low tide, clay shoreline is exposed out towards the point. Under the boat house is pilings and structure.
Restroom: Yes – flushing toilets
