Vol. SCUBA Event – Rockfish Survey
Meet in the parking area of Tacoma SCUBA at the scheduled start time before heading out for a dive at an agreed upon site. In addition to a fun splash, Stena will be inviting you to partake in a rockfish survey – a community science collaboration with NOAA and Paua Marine Research Group, locally organized between Harbor WildWatch and Tacoma SCUBA Dive Club. The dive brief will include a short rockfish survey training which is a twist of science you can add to any future splash – no scientific experience necessary. The young-of-the-year (YOY) rockfish survey program was created to fill a crucial management gap in knowledge about the larval and juvenile life history, ecology, and settlement patterns of these important species. This program utilizes a SCUBA survey approach to conduct YOY surveys throughout the year to gain a better understanding of their abundance, distribution, and habitat preference that will, in turn, guide future rockfish restoration efforts in the Salish Sea. Join the fun!
One Evening Dive Planned-proper certification required
